Etsy Finds Friday - Terry Myhren of Potmaker

 It's **Etsy Finds Friday**
Today I am featuring the
Awesome Pottery
Created by:
Terry Myhren
of Potmaker

In the Artist's Own Words:
About thirty-five years ago, while working in the super market, a tall hippy looking guy came through my check out line and I asked him what he did for a living? He said, "I make pots and sell them at the swap meet on the weekends." He didn't realize it at the time but he planted a seed in my mind and from there I bought some clay, took it home, and began to make pinch pots on the kitchen table. From there I was inspired to take a class for a year and it has been a labor of love ever since. Most of my learning has taken place just by making pots and trying to be a little better each year. That burning desire that I had at the beginning is still a driving force to this day and making pots for me is a joy, a challenge, and it's something I love and will continue to do until I can't make pots anymore. :) My ultimate goal has always been to make useful, beautiful pottery for the average purchaser and that has stood the test of time.

Tall Colorful Vase With Grapes, Butterfly, And Dragonfly....Flowers
Tall Colorful Vase With Grapes, Butterfly, Dragonfly and Flowers
This vase would make a great gift for a friend, yourself, or even a fellow worker. It's a piece of pottery anyone would be glad to receive and place in their home. It was hand thrown on the potters wheel, hand carved designs and carefully glazed in order to bring out all the beautiful colors that you see above. A thing of beauty indeed!!

Bud Vase With butterflies And Flowers With Swirl Design
Bud Vase With Butterflies and Flowers with a Swirl Design
What a beautiful bud vase this is! The detail is amazing and the colors are deep and rich to look at.  This cute vase can hold water up to the first cutout so having live flowers in there is no problem. It would look great on the kitchen table, not taking up too much room whatsoever. It would be a warm gift to a friend or a family member, especially if they love pottery.

Bowl
Bowl
This is a great bowl for salsa, cereal, hot soup, chlli, and candy dish. It was fired to a high temperature in a gas kiln and glazed with a soft green semi-matt glaze. The raw clay adds to a pleasant contrast with the flower design. A very useful piece of pottery it is.

Beautiful Mosaic Coffee Mug
Beautiful Mosaic Coffee Mug
Wow! This mug will be sure to be an eye catcher on the table. It is very colorful, is well balanced for the hand, has a thumb rest on top for easily lifting the mug, and can be used in the dishwasher and microwave oven as well. I threw this mug on the potters wheel and hand carved the mosaic design, making it easily a one of a kind mug. What a gift this would be! It was also fired twice in a gas kiln and allowed to cool slowly which give added strength to the mug.

Ok... (Maybe someday... I can dream anyway!)  And then I was thinking how absolutely incredible some of the nature shots I've pinned are!  Nature is amazing!  Anyway, I thought I would share a few of my Pins here with you.

The group includes Dorothy in her blue and white dress and ruby slippers, Toto, The Tinman in silver metallic clay (with his new heart), Scarecrow in green, brown and tan, and the golden Cowardly Lion with his full, fluffy brown mane. The characters are attached to each other, not separate sculptures. The group is approximately 3.5 inches high and 5 inches across.

Sea turtle pot hanger figurine

Swimming swimming in the sea, come take a look at this sweet sea turtle, as cute as can be!  Lovingly created by me, sea turtle is constructed out of 100% NON TOXIC polymer clay. It looks real! Turtle has one fin that hooks over the edge of anything you decide to place her on for unique decoration. Turtle is about 4 inches long from fin to fin.  Lovingly hand painted details adorn every inch, and shell and eyes are glazed for extra shine.

My Challenge Piece and a Wedding Cake Topper

Today I wanted to share two of my newest pieces... One is a custom order wedding cake topper that I just completed for a customer and the other is a 'Duck~Bunny.'  :)

One of this month's challenges for the PCETeam was to create something dressed up like something else... I created a fun little duck dressed up as a bunny for Halloween.  With her little bag of goodies and a cute pumpkin by her side, she is happy as can be!

.¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨)
(¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥  Next is the wedding cake topper... My customer sent me pictures of the tux and dress the bride and groom will be wearing, and I created a polymer clay faux flagstone base for them to stand on.  The bride's bouquet is made of yellow and lavender roses.

Etsy Finds Friday - Kate Tracton Designs

 It's **Etsy Finds Friday**
Today I am featuring the
Fine Art Jewelry
Created by:
Kate Tracton
of Kate Tracton Designs

"Attention to detail, high-quality craftsmanship,
and beautiful embellishments make each
of her pieces a work of art."

In the Artist's Own Words:
Entirely self-taught, I've been making beaded jewelry in my home studio since 2004, specializing in complex beadweaving and bead embroidery.

In December 2009, I added polymer clay to my materials arsenal. Making jewelry using the millefiori, or caning, process is very exciting and fulfilling. I build colorful beads and jewelry which I sell here on Etsy, on my website, and at craft shows.

Years ago, an accident provided me an opportunity to explore the process of creating jewelry as works of art. From the early days of simply stringing beads together to make pretty patterns, to currently using polymer clay as a basis for spectacularly beaded wearable art, each day I spend in my studio is a joyful experience.

Beadwoven Necklace, Raku Button, Teal Blue
 Beadwoven Necklace
Kate used a beautiful porcelain raku-fired button as the central focus of this sparkly necklace. The button has a shiny glaze with a rainbow of color from copper to seafoam green to red. The neck strap is a double spiral rope with Czech fire-polished crystals and beads carefully color-matched to the button. Glass seed beads add dimension and subtle color. The ropes are finished with copper bead caps and copper melon beads

Asian Inspired Polymer Clay Pendant
Asian Inspired Polymer Clay Pendant
Kate says that this pendant reflects her love of polymer clay. The central motif is made from a slice from a kaleidoscope cane with floral-textured blue clay surrounding the pink motif. The frame is a piece of black clay sporting a stippled texture. The finishing touch is a pair of metallic gold clay knots.

Polymer Clay Drum Bead Necklace
Polymer Clay Drum Bead Necklace
Kate's most intricate polymer clay drum bead, so far, is the central feature of this colorful necklace. The bead was made from slices of several different clay canes: flowers, bullseye lace, and finished up with leaves of yellow, orange, and brown. The bead was baked, sanded, buffed, and coated with acrylic for a glossy shine. The finishing touch are five Swarovski flatback crystals for added sparkle.

Polymer Clay Ring Bowl, Navy Blue, Tomato Red, White
 Polymer Clay Ring Bowl
Kate made this charming little ring bowl from one of her kaleidoscope canes which she then edged with a playful striped border. The tomato red under layer serves both as visual interest and reinforcement of the bottom of the bowl. A set of navy blue feet add a sassy attitude. After curing, Kate sanded the interior of the bowl to a satiny smooth finish.
