Minions!

These were such fun to create!  Bride, groom and ring bearer Minions!  The groom is approximately 4" tall, the bride is 3 1/2" tall and the ring bearer is 2 1/2" tall.  The groom has a big goofy smile and is wearing a fun polka dot tie along with his Minion style overalls.  He has one eye and it's looking toward his bride.  The bride sent me a picture of her dress, and I created a likeness of it, along with a beautiful teal and yellow bouquet of flowers.  Her hair is pinned up to one side with a single white flower.  Her two hazel eyes are looking toward her groom.  The little ring bearer, dressed in his Minion style overalls, is smiling big and holding a special box containing the two wedding rings on a beautiful heart shaped pillow.

It the Artist's own Words:
I simply love gourds...transforming them from field dirty into a showcased piece of art requires alot of work and patience, but is well worth the time and energy. My love for nature and the use of natural materials are reflected in their transformation.

My gourds are also available from the Native American Resource Center In the Old Main Building at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and Guilford Native American Art Gallery in Greensboro, NC.

This gourd basket was colored using a blend of turquoise and teal ink dyes and finished with a coat of protective spray. The inside is painted brown and a coat of protective spray has been applied. The basket is trimmed with faux fir and woven with brown leather lacing. Attached conchos and beads adorn both ends.
Gourds are asymmetrical and are naturally embellished with insect holes, bumps and humps, rough spots, dark spots and other irregularities. These characteristics define gourd and no two are alike.

The inside is painted black enhancing the colors of the dreamcatcher. The gourd is woven with various reed, twine and yarn. Etsy Finds Friday - Felted Artwork by YanArt

It's **Etsy Finds Friday**
Today I am featuring the
  Incredible Felted Artwork
Created by:
Yana Mosnitskaya
of YanArt
In the Artist's own Words:
Exquisite handcrafted felted artworks and OOAK (one of a kind) needle felted collectable dogs.  The birth of each sculpture is a magic process. Every pet has their unique character and temper, mood and charisma. I make my artwork with big love and am glad to share this feeling with my buyers. The greatest happiness for me is when people smile looking at my work. I am sure, if a toy finds its owner, it is born not in vain and will necessarily bring happiness to the new owner and will make their dream come true!  Another hobby of mine is felting… I create my art because I love everything about it. I love the materials. I love the way it feels, the way it looks, and the physical process of creation. I especially love the fact that I can guide the materials but not dictate the outcome. To achieve the most spectacular results, the most unusual textures, I use only natural fibers of soy, bamboo, silk, the thinnest Australian Merino wool, Alpaca wool, etc.

Customizing Cake Toppers...

I love that I can customize my cake toppers to have special meaning to my customers!  They are not just wedding cake, birthday cake, or special event toppers, but also wonderful keepsakes to be enjoyed for years to come.  Something to be displayed, that brings a smile and happy memories when looked at.  Below are just a couple of my wedding cake toppers that have very special meaning.  Lions and a Nurse and Fire Fighter...

This one has such a sweet story... My customer proposed to his fiance in front of the lions at the San Diego Zoo and he thought my Lion Wedding Cake Topper would be perfect.  They are having a very traditional wedding, so the white roses add a special touch.  The lions are sitting on a heart shaped base, stamped with a leaf design.  A gold mica powder was used to enhance the design and bring out the detail.

Here's what my customer said:  "It is PURRRRFECT!!! Thank you so much! So amazing... so so amazing! Thank you again for this : )"

This next topper is a Nurse and Fireman with their dog, a Shepherd and Husky mix... My customer sent me a picture and explained that this sweet puppy's left eye is blue, his right eye is brown, and normally his left ear is straight up and his right ear is bent over mid way...

I was so pleased to receive this message from my customer:
"Omg...its adorable... I just love it!.  I'm excited..."

Etsy Finds Friday - Cold Porcelain Roses

It's **Etsy Finds Friday**
Today I am featuring the
  Beautiful Roses created by:
  Norma Rudloff
of Dough Roses

Norma's roses are absolutely gorgeous!  I enjoyed reading about how her 'obsession' with 'dough' began... (It's a story similar to mine, I also began sculpting with salt dough!)  :)

I am happy to feature Norma's beautiful work here today!

In the Artist's own Words:
I've been a professional crafter for 27 years. My obsession with "dough" started in 1984 and I spent two years dabbling with salt dough, creating salt dough characters as Christmas ornaments. I stumbled upon a recipe for bread dough two years later.

After creating my first bread dough rose, I was hooked on that craft for over 22 years. Last year I started working in cold porcelain, a modeling compound similar to bread dough but without the bread. That led into my interest in creating jewelry with cold porcelain.

My biggest thrill in all these years came early in my career as a bread dough artist when I watched a butterfly land on a rose, fly off and then fly back to investigate further! I was thrilled to think that I had fooled a butterfly!

 Pink Cold Porcelain Rose Pin
Pink Cold Porcelain Rose Pin
This lovely pink rose pin was handmade from cold porcelain and makes a lovely gift for that lady who has everything (except a pink rose pin). No tools or molds were used in the creation of these flowers. Once formed, they were left to air dry, becoming hard and very durable. The pin is 3" long from tip to tip and about 1 1/4' wide. It can be worn on a jacket, as a hat pin or even for decorative purposes on a purse.

White Floral Bracelet
White Floral Bracelet
Handmade flowers, made from cold porcelain, are combined with clear Swarovski crystals for a bracelet that can be worn anytime, anywhere. This bracelet is 7 1/2" long and has a lovely silver fold over magnetic clasp. . Each petal was made individually by hand, no tools or molds were used in the creation of these flowers which then air dried to become hard and durable.

Yellow and White Floral Cake Topper
Yellow and White Floral Cake Topper
This floral cake topper was handmade from cold porcelain and will last for many years after your special day. That enables you to use your imagination as to how you can use it as part of your decor. Each petal has been shaped by hand, no tools or molds were used in their creation. Once formed, the flowers air dried to become very hard and durable. The cake topper is 5" wide and includes a votive candle holder. The flowers can be cleaned with a damp cloth, a hair dryer or canned air.

Groom with Golf Club and Bride Wedding Cake Topper

I just completed a fun custom order!  My customer wanted her groom to be posed with a golf club and also wanted their two dogs included.  She sent me pictures of the tux, dress and the puppies and also described the pose she wanted for the groom.  Here's the first picture I sent to my customer, after creating the bride and groom :

They were very pleased with the bride and groom,
so I went on to creating the puppies...

They have a Boxer and wanted him to wear a black bow tie,
and they have a Yorkie and wanted her to have a pink bow by her ear.

Below are a couple pictures of the completed topper.  The bride is wearing an ivory dress embellished with a beaded design, and a beaded belt.  She is holding a bouquet of beautiful flowers in yellow, peach, orange and white.  Her brown hair is straight with big curls at the ends.  The groom is wearing a grey tux, ivory shirt and tie and is wearing a peach rose boutonniere.

Our Little Tree...

We have a tree that is right outside our kitchen window.  When we are in the kitchen, we can see the birds in the tree, building their nests, eating the birdseed we put out for them... We can see the hummingbirds fluttering around their feeder... Love our little tree and so do the birds.  Sadly, over the last two summers our little tree has been looking quite pathetic really.  First George cut the dead branches and it seemed to promote growth for the other branches... But this spring it didn't look too good.  We decided we would probably need to cut it down.  So George went outside with the chain saw, telling me he was going to cut it down, but instead he cut off more branches and this is how our sad little tree looks right now.  We know it'll have to be completely cut down, and we will plant a new tree in it's place, but I think George knows that I'm wishing it would come back...

We are lucky though, we have a lot of trees in our yard.  Well, I think we are lucky... George thinks some are way too messy and difficult to keep up with.   Our Weeping Willow by our driveway, in the picture below, looks great this year... I love how it sways in the breeze.

Well, we thought that the farmer next to us was going to plant corn this year, but he didn't... So we can still see all the way across the farmer's field and our dogs love that.  Izzy loves to sit between our two little pine trees, (sitting watch at the edge of the field), I don't think she would have liked the corn, it definitely would have hampered her view!

It's so cool, we get a new pine tree to plant each year when we recycle our Christmas tree at the nursery.  We go to the same nursery each year to pick out and cut down our Christmas tree and they give us a certificate to come back in the spring and pick out a little live tree.  We have four now, two in the front yard and then the two you see below that Izzy likes to sit between.  They sure look small next to those big black walnut trees!

Izzy and Emmi are enjoying the summer!  We are in the middle of a heat wave right now and we desperately need rain... But that doesn't stop either of them from wanting to play outside!  They like to run and catch golf balls when George is outside practicing his swing.  It's turned into a game now, and he'll just throw the balls out, and they run and fetch them, and then bring them back for more.  They love it and they can go and go and go, but it's too hot right now for too much of that.  Here's a couple of pictures of Izzy and Emmi at rest... Something you don't see all that often!  In fact, Izzy looks like she's about to take off in this picture!

Emmi and George
Right after I took this picture, Emmi was licking George and looking at him with those big eyes... Her way of asking to go outside... Of course George couldn't resist, can't say no to that face!

The other day I was driving down the road and I saw a baby horse romping around with his mother, it was the coolest thing.  I stopped by the side of the road and watched them for a while, they were so sweet.  I took a few pictures, but they didn't turn out so good.  The one below was the best of the bunch, so I thought I would share it with you.
