A Couple of My Very First Sculptures...

I thought I would share with you a couple of my very first polymer clay sculptures.  Both were created in 2004.  I remember, I would watch The Carol Duvall show in the mornings when I was getting ready for work.  She would have polymer clay artists on her show quite often.  My Mom watched the show too, and we would talk about how polymer clay looked like such fun.  We were amazed at the art pieces that were created, and such a wide range, from beautiful and unique jewelry to sweet figurines... And so much more!  There are amazingly talented polymer clay artisans out there, and each one inspires me!

Through the years, Mom and I (and later, my own kids) sculpted using salt dough to make Christmas ornaments.  I really wanted to try polymer clay.  For my birthday in 2003, my Mom gave me a basket filled with polymer clay, clay tools, a book and other goodies to get started.  Well, needless to say, I fell in love with this art medium, and was immediately obsessed!  I didn't have a studio back then, we did our crafting right on the kitchen table... Soon I bought a little desk and put it in our game room and in NO time at all there were little polymer clay figurines on every surface in that room!  A big THANK YOU to my Mom!  That basket full of polymer clay goodies was a wonderful gift and it took my life in a whole new direction!  Working with clay brings me so much joy.  I am always imagining new things to create, and love custom work.  I love personalizing my pieces for special occasions that have special meaning to my customers.   Going back in time a little bit... Here are two of my very first polymer clay sculptures:

A Day at the Fishing Hole

This first one is a little boy fishing, with his tackle box and fishing guide book beside him.  He is sitting on a hill with a little green frog.  I realized, even back when I first started sculpting with polymer clay, that the little details are my favorite part!  They are what make my pieces 'come to life' ~ Like this little boy's tiny toes, the tackle box, the waves of the water splashing onto the sand, the rocks... Such fun!

The next one is a little girl in her garden.  She's planting seeds and has a cute little watering can beside her.  She's wearing her little red sneakers, her hair is up in pigtails and she has little freckles on her face.

An Owl and Frog Wedding Cake Topper!

A fun custom order I recently completed, this darling Owl and Frog couple are sitting on a log happily cuddled up together. The bride Frog is wearing a lacy white veil with little roses along the crown and she is holding a beautiful bouquet of yellow roses. The groom owl has his wing around his bride, he's wearing a yellow rose boutonniere. moss is covering part of the log and a cute little mushroom with some yellow daisies decorate the grass. Beside them is a vintage suitcase with travel stickers of the places they'll go or have been together.  You can see this listing HERE, in my Etsy Shop.

Kickin' Back Dog

I love it when my customers see something in my Etsy Shop that I've created and they would like their own special and unique version of it.  It is such a good feeling for me when I can make their request 'come to life' and create something for them that is a keepsake to be treasured always!  That's what happened when a customer saw my 'Kickin' Back Frog' listing.  She asked if I could make a Rottweiler in the same pose, with a ball in her mouth.  Here's what I created for her, and she loved it so much that she wants another sculpture to represent her second puppy dog too!  I am so happy when my customers are pleased!
