Art Doll ~ Lacey

I hand sculpted this doll using Sculpey clay with an armature underneath the clay for support. She was painted in acrylics then sealed with a varnish. I used plastic doll eyes and yarn for the hair. I made the dress with fabrics and then hand stitched the back. This piece is a collector’s item only. It is delicate and not intended as a toy. She measures almost 11 inches from head to toe. Her arms and legs are posable. This doll is signed & dated on her bottom.

My passion for art began as a six-year-old growing up in Chicago. My mother was an art student, and I was fascinated by her oil painting and jewelry projects. Trips to Chicago’s fabulous Art Institute came often, further instilling the love for art that would become a constant in an eclectic career path ranging from horsewoman to freight pilot to computer programmer. Our family’s organic garden and frequent camping trips nurtured a love for nature, especially flowers and rocks, which finds its way into much of my work today.

I started making jewelry when I was given a gift of handmade earrings from a friend. I was amazed that she had made them herself. I bought some beads that very week, and learned how to make earrings. Since then, making jewelry has been a passion and a joy that keeps the rest of my life in perspective. My style has evolved and grown over the years, and I am now a full time metal smith, mostly self-taught.

Baby Boy in a Laundry Basket

He sleeps on a Premo! pillow detailed with embroidery in a laundry basket all made from polymer clay, his 'jammies' are clay too! The baby has a wisp of blonde Tibetan mohair. In his basket is a yellow and blue baby quilt draped over the side. It's also made of clay. The basket measures 3-1/2" in length and is 2-1/4" wide. The baby boy is 2" long. He is One of a Kind is not made from any mold.

The total size of the Shopping Wizard is 3 1/4 inches tall x 2 ½ inches wide x 3 inches front to back. The Wizard is completely handmade from polymer clay. The facial details are delicately painted and the eyes are made from metallic blue seed beads. Her hair is fiber and overall she’s embellished with sparkles and iridescent purple finish on the clay. Her hat is decorated with tiny faux gems. She holds a ribbon (perhaps to tie up her shopping bags).
