Today I am featuring the Beautiful
Fabric Art ~ created by:
Stephanie Urban
of Little Lion Designs
When I came across Stephanie Urban's beautiful artwork I loved what I saw and went right to her Etsy Shop to see all of her lovely Fabric Art designs. I also read her profile, telling how she began creating these wonderful fabric art pieces and was touched by her words.
Stephanie started doing art when she was old enough to hold a pencil (back then she thought she was a fashion designer). She's spent most of her adult years as a graphic designer. In May, she gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Kaia Belle Urban. Before she was born, Stephanie handmade everything in her nursery. After all the projects were finished, she was left with a box full of scrap fabrics. Instead of tossing them into a landfill, Stephanie decided to create something from them. She then made "a tree for Kaia", which is not for sale, but it is viewable in her Etsy shop.
"Kaia was born and 3 days later was transported to Rainbow babies and children's hospital due to a "heart murmor". They then found out that she had Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome. She passed away at only 34 days old, after surviving almost 3 weeks post-op from open heart surgery. Kaia is Stephanie's inspiration, her love, her angel. Stephanie's husband lost his job while they were going through all of this. Two months after Kaia passed, Stephanie lost her job too."
In an effort to "listen" to her calling, Stephanie decided to rely on what she started doing when she was a child and went back to hands-on art. This brought her to start creating more and more of these fabric pieces, as they became quite popular to those that have been in Kaia's nursery.
Stephanie and her husband called their daughter "Little Lion" because she was so so tough (and definitely ruled them, as they were wrapped around her finger). Stephanie decided to name the work after Kaia, since it was their 'Little Lion' that inspired Stephanie to create it in the first place. Thus was born, Little Lion Designs.

Out of the depths of sorrow comes something of beauty. Stephanie's story is so heartbreaking. It's wonderful to see her strength through her troubled times. Her work is awesome!

ReplyDeleteLook at that owl! I love it! It's so bright and colorful.
ReplyDeleteDo you sell the pattern for the guitar? I promise a nephew to make him a quilt and can't find any decent patterns and I love this!!!
ReplyDeleteHello Mistyskye, I'm attaching the link to this artist's Etsy shop so that you can contact her about your question... I'm not sure if she sells patterns of her work, I think only the finished quilts, but maybe she can point you in the right direction for quilt patterns. https://www.etsy.com/shop/littleliondesigns Thank you!
