Etsy Finds Friday - Teapots!

It's Etsy Finds Friday and today I thought I would do my Friday Feature a little differently... I am a coffee drinker.  I love coffee and once I wake up each morning I can't wait to have my first cup of the day!  I don't drink coffee much past noon though.  I also drink tea now and then, nice on a cold winter afternoon or evening.  Even though I don't drink tea as often as I do coffee, I love teapots!  I was browsing Etsy the other day and came across some fun, nature inspired teapots and thought I would share a few with you for Etsy Finds Friday.  Click on the images to see more about each piece and don't forget to visit each of these great shops to see more of their wonderful handmade creations.  Enjoy!

My name is Suzanne and I love clay. I love how it feels and even how it smells. I love to throw clay, and I am totally amazed with what can be made using clay. The 5 clays that I use are: raku, porcelain, and three colors of stoneware. I like each one for its own unique properties and can't give up any one of them because each one is used to create something different.  Almost everything that I make is thrown on the wheel - vases and urns, piggy banks and bunny banks and pieces that make my grandchildren happy--and make me happy too--, mugs with big handles, all sizes and shapes of pitchers, garden and fairy garden items, and a lot of seasonal items. 
 

I am a left-handed potter and I throw in the opposite direction of most other potters. For the main part, I taught myself how to throw clay on the potters wheel. (The potters wheel that I learned on is a very special wheel that was made for me by my father. It was made from a tractor axle, electrified, and it is a three speed stick-shift with a clutch. The wheel is still in use - now I use it to grind the bottoms of each piece as it comes out of the kiln, to be certain the bottoms are nice and smooth. )

Hi! I'm Elly from Art-Studio Visnya. I'm a ceramics artist who loves making people smile through my sculptures and jewelry. I have designed and hand crafted ceramics over the past 10 years.

Art-Studio Visnya was started by my father Valentin Vishnevsky more than 40 years ago.  Now Studio Visnya - is a family team of 4 artists - Valentin, Elly, Valery & Vik.  Working in our studio, we create one-of-a-kind ceramics pieces.  Our ceramic sculptures are in collections in the Israel, U.S., France, Australia, Russia, Germany, Iceland, Canada, U.K.

I was born September 20, 1956 in Ann Arbor, MI. I moved to Brazil with my parents and siblings at age 2, where I lived for 22 years.  I returned to U.S. in 1980 where I completed a B.S. in Computer Science and Math in 1985 at Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago. I moved to San Diego, CA. and later Eugene, OR., where I worked in the computer field until 1997. I held a position with University of Oregon from 1990-1997.  I began doing pottery by learning hand-building and wheel-throwing skills at the University's Craft Center in 1990. I continue developing until today as a self-taught potter, and by taking numerous workshops and learning from other accomplished potters.  I am also a licensed massage therapist and work full-time in this field.  I guess I just like using my hands in everything I do! 

 

 

 Pottery Stoneware Pie Plate with Flower

If you love pie as I do, then this beautifully hand painted pie plate is perfect for baking that awesome pie that can only be so good because it's made in a classic ceramic stoneware plate!
Whether your idea is to make a traditional apple pie, a summer raw fruit pie or a french onion and gruyere quiche, you are bound to enjoy it in every way.  This pie plate with a whimsical and fun flower design is made of white stoneware clay, wheel-thrown, glazed with light blue, celadon and apple green glazes, decorated with slips and wax-resist designs, and then fired to cone 10 (high-fire) in a gas reduction kiln.

 

Teapot with Leaf Motif and Cane Handle

This one-of-a-kind hand painted, fully functional teapot is perfect for afternoon high tea with friends or evenings sipping bedtime tea while the rain patters against your windows.  It has an English cane handle and a built-in strainer for loose leaves as well as tea bags. The spout pours very well without spilling, as I pay particular attention to this detail.

 

Sugar Bowl

This adorable one-of-a-kind handmade sugar bowl has so much personality!  I made it using white stoneware clay, wheel-thrown and altered, decorated with my original wax-resist technique and slip designs, then dipped in multiple Shino, Celadon and Apple Green glazes and high fired to approx. 2400F in a gas reduction kiln.

About thirty-five years ago, while working in the super market, a tall hippy looking guy came through my check out line and I asked him what he did for a living? He said, "I make pots and sell them at the swap meet on the weekends." He didn't realize it at the time but he planted a seed in my mind and from there I bought some clay, took it home, and began to make pinch pots on the kitchen table. From there I was inspired to take a class for a year and it has been a labor of love ever since. Most of my learning has taken place just by making pots and trying to be a little better each year. That burning desire that I had at the beginning is still a driving force to this day and making pots for me is a joy, a challenge, and it's something I love and will continue to do until I can't make pots anymore. :) My ultimate goal has always been to make useful, beautiful pottery for the average purchaser and that has stood the test of time.

Tall Colorful Vase With Grapes, Butterfly, Dragonfly and Flowers

This vase would make a great gift for a friend, yourself, or even a fellow worker. It's a piece of pottery anyone would be glad to receive and place in their home. It was hand thrown on the potters wheel, hand carved designs and carefully glazed in order to bring out all the beautiful colors that you see above. A thing of beauty indeed!!

 Bud Vase With Butterflies and Flowers with a Swirl Design

What a beautiful bud vase this is! The detail is amazing and the colors are deep and rich to look at.  This cute vase can hold water up to the first cutout so having live flowers in there is no problem. It would look great on the kitchen table, not taking up too much room whatsoever. It would be a warm gift to a friend or a family member, especially if they love pottery.

Bowl

This is a great bowl for salsa, cereal, hot soup, chlli, and candy dish. It was fired to a high temperature in a gas kiln and glazed with a soft green semi-matt glaze. The raw clay adds to a pleasant contrast with the flower design. A very useful piece of pottery it is.

Beautiful Mosaic Coffee Mug

Wow! This mug will be sure to be an eye catcher on the table. It is very colorful, is well balanced for the hand, has a thumb rest on top for easily lifting the mug, and can be used in the dishwasher and microwave oven as well. I threw this mug on the potters wheel and hand carved the mosaic design, making it easily a one of a kind mug. What a gift this would be! It was also fired twice in a gas kiln and allowed to cool slowly which give added strength to the mug.
