Butterflies in Bloom!
Zebra Longwing
Just when the last of the snow could only be seen clinging to the sides of the ditches... A winter storm hit with all it's fury! Just days before the storm, we had gotten a small glimpse of spring. The warmer temperatures and lack of snow on the ground made it easier to think spring was right around the corner. Even though the grass was brown, I could picture it turning green. Even though the trees were still gray and bare, I could picture the buds on them. I could imagine the beautiful and colorful flowers brightening the landscape and sending their sweet fragrance through the air. As the storm came through, I looked outside, visibility was very low ~ Once again it was pretty much a white and gray, icy, snowy mess all the way around.
Desperate to keep the feeling of spring, we thought it would be a GREAT time to go to the Butterfly Exhibit that we've been wanting to see! Yesterday, the sun was out and the sky was blue, a perfect day to walk the trails at the Dow Gardens leading us to the exhibit.
.¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ Butterflies are so beautiful, so delicate, and there were so many different species to see at the exhibit. Once inside the conservatory, it felt as though we'd escaped from the cold snow right into a warm, sunny spring day, or a day in the tropics. LOVED it! Click on the images to see a larger view... Especially the last butterfly, AMAZING!
Monarch and Spicebush Swallowtail
.¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ For 15 years now, "Butterflies in Bloom" has been Dow Gardens Annual Spring Exhibit. It's right here in Midland, and it features about 4,000 butterflies. They also have a display case where you can see some of the butterflies emerging from their chrysalides. Amazing! I hope you enjoy seeing some of the photographs I took of our day at the Butterfly Exhibit!
Queen
.¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨) (¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ The Queen Butterfly looks as though she has little hearts on her wings! Wouldn't that be pretty as a polymer clay butterfly cane?!

Thank you Mom!! You know I have ALWAYS aspired to be a photographer!! :) I had such fun photographing the butterflies and the scenery at the Dow Gardens!! The butterflies will only be there until April 24th... I think I may just have to visit again before then! :)
Trina....thanks for this little peak at spring in Michigan! So unique, a mix of snow and spring color and then butterflies...wow. What a wonderful place to go! The photos are awesome too! Happy Spring! xo
So glad you enjoyed the little peek at spring in Michigan Tina! Yes, snow and butterflies are not something we ever see... George walked out of the conservatory with a butterfly on his coat, and as he was walking back in the butterfly flew to the snow covered ground... Not good! We had to hurry to get him back into the warmth of the room!
What marvelous photos... thank you Trina! The beautiful monarch with hearts on her wings is gorgeous... well they all are. I envy you seeing them in person!!
You got some gorgeous pictures. You should go there as often as you can. You are a wonderful photographer!
