Rainy Day Fun! My Newest Creations!

Today I would like to share with you my challenge piece for the Polymer Clay Enthusiasts Team's April challenge, as well as two of my newest custom creations.

First ~ April's 'Stretch Yourself' PCETeam challenge is "April Showers / Rainy Day" and I decided to do a polymer clay Picture Art piece.  These monthly challenges are great because we create things that stretch us as artists, and it is such fun to see what my creative and talented fellow team members come up with!!  I really love to put a lot of thought into each challenge piece, and create something I normally wouldn't.  This month was no exception.  I have only made one other 'picture type' polymer clay scene, it was a teddy bear holding balloons.  I found that creating a picture piece is a bit challenging for me in and of itself, because all of my work is three dimensional, all sculptures.  The piece that I made before was a collaborative creation that I did with my Mom... A photo album for the pictures of my sister-in-law's baby shower.  My Mom and I had fun creating and putting the album together as a special gift for Tina.  I embellished the cover of the photo album and my Mom put together the photographs, scrapbook style.  It turned out darling.

So, here's my challenge piece, it's definitely more detailed than the teddy bear and balloons, plus the entire thing is made of polymer clay.

The picture is approximately 4" wide and 3 1/2" high.  I created vines that look like wood, around the picture, and then added roses, green vines and leaves.  I used mica powders to enhance the look of the vines and roses.  I thought a scene of a little girl and her big red umbrella on a rainy day would be cute.  I had such fun creating this... I might just have to do more polymer clay 'picture' art pieces!!

The next pictures are of two my most recent custom orders which I just completed this weekend.  The first one was purchased as a gift for a couple about to be married.  He's a fireman, she's a nurse and they have an adorable dog that my customer wanted posed with them.  The second one is of a Soccer Referee.

  2. As usual they are wonderful. That "Rainy Day" sure make me smile and it's really going to make some lucky recipient smile a lot when they purchase it. You outdid yourself with the Fireman, nurse, and their dog. What a wedding cake treasure! The coach is very special, too.
