In the Artist's Own Words:
When I was 5 years old, I started to make crafts and loved it so much.
In my whole family, I had only one fan, my grandma. At that time, I
could only make some simple origami, such as bird, boat, pants… Every
time when I finished, I would show them to my granny. No matter how ugly
they were, my granny always said: ”Wow, how beautiful!!! My
granddaughter is the smartest girl.” There was no internet, no blog, no
crafts forum then, so my granny was my only audience. Her smile was my
only encouragement. Little by little, I started to learn sewing, crocheting and knitting. I
was so glad I could spend boring and hot summer holiday in crafting. At
my 12, I became able to crochet hat and sock. At my 14, I became able to
sew pants. Afterwards, I had less and less spare time to make crafts. I had to
spend all my time and energy in schools and universities to get degrees.
Moreover, life is not always happy and beautiful, sometimes full of
stress, sometimes full of tears, sometimes full of pains. Ten years ago, my dear granny left me forever. I cannot stop missing her even now. How sad... Now everything has been settled down. The happiest thing in my life is that I have
such a nice husband to support, understand, and love me. So I regain my peaceful life to wakeup my faraway and happiest memory from my deepest heart. I
start to make crafts again. Everyday, I enjoy the designing and
creating. It seems I returned to my sunny childhood and I saw my
granny’s encouraging smile again.
The wool coin purse/coin pouch is made of very soft wool. It was totally handmade with 100% wool. The
image on the purse is not flat. That was made with needle felt
technique to make the bird in 3D style. It's a very time-consuming. The
metal frame was sewn onto the purse with needle and cotton thread.I attached a picture of the purse with my hand to show the proportion, about 4" long and wide as the zippered one.The
shape is so comfortable to be held in hand. The round body can be put
enough coins.....It shows a little bird standing on a branch.

This artist's story of her Granny brought tears to my eyes. What a wonderful Grandmother she was. The artist's creations are not only whimsical, but wonderfully made as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing grandmother she must have been. I think she'd be very pleased the way you turned out......and also the fact that you are still creative and artistic and
ReplyDeletepassing it all on.
