A Gift on the Shore...

.¸.•´¸.•*´¨) ¸.•*¨)
(¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ It was our first wedding anniversary and we went to Monterey, California to spend some time at the ocean.  We went whale watching, enjoyed walking through the shops, walked along the beach at sunset and had a nice romantic dinner in a beautiful restaurant right on the water.  It was one of the very few times the two of us went away for any length of time... it's a nice memory.

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ The ocean is one of my favorite places to spend time, and going up into the mountains is George's favorite.  When we lived in California it was the best of both worlds because from where we lived, in the hills of Northern California, we could drive a couple of hours one way to go to the ocean, and a couple of hours the other direction to visit the mountains.  We'd taken a few day trips to Lake Tahoe, but hadn't spent much time at the ocean.  I always loved the photographs I'd seen of the whales and wanted to get a closer look.  We thought spending a few days at the ocean and going whale watching one afternoon seemed like the perfect thing to do for our first anniversary.  We knew we were at the end of the whale watching season and that we'd have to really watch as not to miss an awesome sight.  We were only out on the boat a short time when we could see whales, George was Oooohing and Aaaaing, as were the others on the boat.  I, however, was fumbling with my camera equipment trying to get a good shot of the whales and missed the the whole thing!   How George laughed at me over that!  I don't have any spectacular whale pictures from that anniversary trip, but I do have a nice keepsake... a gift washed onto the shore...

(¸.•´ (¸.•` ♥ As we were walking along the beach we came to a rocky area.  We were headed to a nice big rock where we could sit and watch the sailboats and the birds.  I looked down and there in front of me was a gift on the shore... a piece of wood in the perfect shape of a heart.  I called out to George who kept walking ahead... I was so excited, I thought it was so symbolic!  He wasn't as touched as I was, (after all, it really was just a piece of bark) but I was so happy to have found this sweet little heart... this wonderfully symbolic gift on the shore!  Maybe someday I'll get that awesome shot of a whale... but forever I will have this sweet little heart!

  3. I love this story so much....it's funny how so many people may have just walked right by that piece of driftwood. But...you were present, you found it, and saw the heart it was carved into. Now,
the story and the heart are yours to keep, your gifts from the shore. You will get that photo of the whale yet, I'm sure of it...xo!

  7. What a wonderful story. Before moving to Arizona we lived 45 minutes from the beach. Such a beautiful place with hidden treasures and fond memories. Natures art is always the best.

  8. Thank you Gayl! The beach sure is a beautiful place, and natures art is awesome! I've always found visiting the beach to be inspirational, and it gives me a sense of peace... listening to the waves splash onto the shore, the birds... the whole thing. Love it! I bet you miss being so close to the beach.
